Two comic-book stores I found ...
(6:30pm) - URLs: Via a Google maps lookup, I found these two comic book stores. I'm going to go check them out now:
- Heroes Aren't Hard to Find
* Comics, comics, and more comics!
* These guys run a huge comics convention every summer out of the Charlotte Convention Center.
* Back issues, and new comics only it seems. They aren't that big on toys according to the site.
- Rebel Base Comics & Toys
* Wow! Comics & Toys! Gotta love that. The site also says they give a 20% discount for being on their pull list.
My first (gut reaction) instinct is to say that Rebel Base is most likely where I sign up. If Heroes has a pull service with a discount, then ... it'll be hard to pass it up.
But regardless of which one I finally sign up with, they're both within shouting distance of each other ... :)
Peace!

Classic poetry ... limerick style
(3:00pm) - URL: Someone "re-wrote" (summarized?) some classic poems as limericks. Gotta be read to be believed!

Good Sci-Fi on ABC in August...
(5:15pm) - URL: There's going to be a four-week mini-series on Saturday nights in August. It's all on ABC, which is surprising, but it's late Saturday nights, thus guaranteeing very little viewership!
All details here:

"A little about me" added to the left...
(6:30pm) - TEXT: Let's see how good this works out - I wonder if it'll get people to email me now :) So far I haven't gotten a single stranger's email due to anything I've posted here...
I may actually do this ... caffeine Jello shots
(6:15pm) - URL: Well ... I guess it was inevitable! Here's a recipe for making Jello shots full of caffeine. I hate the taste of coffee and gotta water it down and cut it with a lotta cream. This would work in a great way:

(As an aside - browse the wikihow site. I have their widget on my Google page. Pretty kickin' stuff there pretty often.)

Web page links moved to their own page
(10:30am) - URL: Well ... I had to do it. It finally happened.
There are so many cool sites that I go to over and over that the "My Links:" section got too long. So if you go here, you'll see 'em all in a nice, neat, 3 column table. So now I can have an entirely new web page growing out of control ... keep that page in YOUR favorites and you too can see how I waste my valuable time :) !!
Stay cool, world. PEACE!

Good Gawd, Pope! How could ya say that?!?
(10:45am) - URL: I think one week of patriotic fervor is enough, eh?
Next up: The pope's statement yesterday that only Catholics are true Christians, and other faiths are "defective" because they suffer "from a 'wound' since they do not recognize the primacy of the Pope."
I read a response that seemed very reasoned on this page. In sum, "I think the reactions many people are having to the Pope's statement are indicative of how poorly Americans understand religion."
Get a grip, people! He's only saying officially what everyone has known for years. It just hasn't ever been written down. That's all this is: a factual statement of the Church's Official Position on Protestants (with emphasis on "protest") which has never changed going back to the Reformation itself & Martin Luther's break from Catholicism.
Seriously, people ( by which I mean, 'Those Who Believe Cliffs Notes Are The Whole Book'): Try not to swallow the sound bite for once. It ain't the whole story!! The Pope still wants to talk real ecumenism. Nothing's changed....
Sheesh.
OK - you can go about your business :)

Happy Birthday, USA!!
(10:45am) - TEXT: First, let me say Happy Independence Day to one and all, and I hope all of you are having a great time today with family, friends, and everyone who is most important in every single one of your lives!
That said, today is a great day to provide a summary comment on the state of this blog and my views of our great country. I love this country, and regardless of my negativity toward the administration, I always will.
MY PATRIOTIC MANIFESTO:
** Regarding my negative views of Cheney and the Bush Presidency (given in that order for a specific reason):
1. My negative opinions reside squarely on the shoulders of Richard Cheney and George W. Bush as *individuals*. I will always respect their offices. It is the individual opinions of both men towards we, their constituents, that I adamantly believe are disrespectful, malicious, and unkind.
2. The office of the President of the United States (the entire Executive Branch included, especially Cheney, no matter what his personal beliefs - see prior posts) is the most honored and loved of all offices in our lofty government. I personally disagree with the man holding the highest office, *not* the office itself.
3. I am partially responsible for the Presidency of George W. Bush. I voted for W in 2000. I personally feel regret for that decision now. It means that I hold some responsibility for all the decisions made since 2000 and the poor quality of the Executive Branch of the United States Government.
4. The Executive Branch consists of many departments and positions, held by many individuals of widely varying character and morality. Bush holds all the responsibility for appointing (or allowing Cheney to appoint) every person holding a position in the Executive Branch. I believe history will speak to the fact that both Cheney and Bush are individuals who were never qualified to hold the honorable offices of Vice-President & President of the United States of America.
5. Lastly, just because I don't like Bush, don't assume I'm un-American! This manifesto manifestly (ha!) states I *am* a proud American. There are too many people who jump to the judgement that "disagreement with W" automatically equals "traitor." Also, "disagreement with the war in Iraq" means "lover of terrorists." You hear it all the time in the media; talking heads and Congressional members and spokesperson love soundbites that paint any person showing disagreement with Bush or the war as traitorous and pro-terrorist. Connecting-the-dots that way is not accurate and is un-American. The greatest of American virtues is the constitutional right of those who *disagree* to state their views openly and without hindrance.
** Regarding my hope for the future:
1. As bad as things look now, as dismal and depressing as any partisan (liberal or conservative) may paint the situation, the U.S. and the world will survive this latest threat. That threat is fundamentalist religion: currently it seems to be Islam. But take a look at Northern Irish history. It could be Protestant or Catholic! The world has survived the threats of Communism, the Inquisition, Fascism, and (perhaps most evil of all, a battle we're still fighting) racism. We will survive the threat of all fundamentalist religion as well!
1. I recently read (listened unabridged to) both of Barack Obama's books. I am now of the opinion he would be the best next President of the United States of America. His idealism fits tooth-in-gear with American grit and realism. I believe he can fix what's wrong, and proceed aright.
2. Hillary Clinton: she has proven due to her actions and words as First Lady, Senator, and now Presidential candidate that she is an adroit and entirely political (in the negative sense) decision maker who always puts herself first. She should have divorced Bill after those (disastrous for the U.S.) impeachment proceedings. It's undeniably true that past Presidents have philandered. But Bill Clinton is the highest profile philanderer in the history of our great country. Her decision to stay with him could only be political. She would rather ride his coattails than rely on her own singular abilities. In other words, I would *feel* more warm and positive about her had she divorced her husband and shown that she absolutely does not need "husband Bill's" popularity.
3. I am distressed about the sad state of McCain's campaign. He was ridin' high in 2000; he would have made much better decisions for our country (including Executive Branch staff!) over the last seven years than W has made. However, he totally destroyed his chances to be President for two reasons. One, he bowed out in 2000 and told us (including me!) to vote for Bush. Two, during the last six years, he supported the decisions of George W. Bush too many times when he should have said, "I'm sorry" and gone a different way. He's toed the Republican Party line too many times.
There's a lot more to say, and I hope a dear reader or two will send thoughtful, reasoned disagreements by email to me (see address in footer of this page). I'll be happy to address all disagreements or agreements I get!
Peace! Out for today ...

Bush Presidency: A Record of Abuses
(4:15pm) - TEXT & URLs: Now he's commuting "Scooter" Libby's jail time. What the heck? Why not throw a FULL PARDON on the fire, too?!? According to MSNBC, it's likely he will.
Evidently Cheney breaking the law by ordering the cover-blowing reveal isn't enough... Next they throw Scooter under the bus, and then pick 'im up, dust 'im off, and commute his sentence. "Libby's conviction was the one faint glimmer of accountability for White House efforts to manipulate intelligence and silence critics of the Iraq war," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. "Now, even that small bit of justice has been undone."
Elsewhere, Valerie Plame (whose spyhood was so lasciviously uncovered) & her husband Joseph Wilson have sued Bush, Cheney, Libby, Karl Rove, and Richard Armitage (former Deputy Secretary of State) in civil court. True to form, Cheney claims he has absolute immunity.
*AHEM* ... If you ask me, this guy is the best solution to our Presidential woes!
Peace!
