Gator Basketball Update...
(3:30pm) - TEXT: Gators now 19-2 and in the thick of a 12-game win streak. Next up:
| Wed Jan 31 | Vanderbilt | Gainesville, FL | 7:00PM(ET) |
Car broke ...
(3:40pm) - TEXT: chug-a-chug-a-chug-a-wheeze-chug-a-chug-ROOOAAR-
chug-a-chug-a-chug ... stall ...
That's what my car's been doing all week. Finally took it to the shop Saturday morning and learned that the "coolant intake valve" was broken and leaking green coolant on the spark plugs and ignition coil. The tally? $1700.00 X-(
OUCH!
I'm too depressed to say anything more about it ... except that at least I have a FREE loaner Dodge Stratus from Enterprise to keep me mobile.
MOVIES!
(3:45pm) - TEXT: I saw a bunch of movies this weekend:
Saturday:
- Anger Management -
FANTASTIC! I was very happily surprised. Highly recommend it.
CLASSIC: Jack and Adam singing "I Feel Pretty" while blocking traffic and suffering the insults and hand gestures of irate New Yorkers... - Bridget Jones' Diary -
About what I expected. Very good, but not terribly excellent. Colin Firth was good, and Hugh Grant was a scream.
CLASSIC: Finding out via an interview with Helen Fielding that she stole the plot from "Pride and Prejudice."
Sunday:
- Pleasantville -
B&W / Color in the same shot(s) make for an interesting effect. Very good. Very calm and straightforward plot. Imagine "Father Knows Best" gets 90's teens for kids and you get the whole picture. Kids who "get it" and become modern/true Americans get "colored" .... leading to an ending that has a lot to say about the evils of racism. First clue? Right here:
CLASSIC: Sign in the window of a store: "No Coloreds" - I Married a Strange Person -
YUCK. Very gruesome and weirder than weird. It's animated and gets highly psychedelic. Avoid it! - Thelma & Louise -
Eh. Good movie, but very sad/tragic. Not the end so much as the entire movie is one black nightmare of *bad* choices. But there's serious character growth, so I can see why it is considered a great movie.
CLASSIC: Harvey Keitel: "Brains only get you so far, and luck always runs out." - He Walks By Night -
Very good B&W flick from 1948. I really enjoyed it because from the description it sounded like the bad guy got away at the end and it would be an unsolved case. But the police do catch up with the bad guy and kill him at the end. Good precursor to the "Dragnet" TV series.
CLASSIC: Jack Webb plays the young lab scientist who provides key evidence documentation.

Gator Basketball Update...
(10:30am) - TEXT: So I started closely tracking the Gators last week since they'd been #1 pre-season. Lo and behold, after losing two games, they've been back on a winning tear, taking 11 straight. Not surprisingly, they're back #1 yet again. For all you Gators out there - here's the next game for Florida:
| Sat Jan 27 | at Auburn | Auburn, AL | 5:00PM(ET) |
"CoffeyTalk"
(1:15pm) - LINK: She describes her site as "an inspiring blend of ancient wisdom and modern style" - an eclectic description that seized my attention and wouldn't let go. So I had to check it out:
http://www.coffeytalk.com/
Hmmm ... my first reaction is it's a poor knockoff of Martha Stewart. But that eclectic definition has hold of me, so I'll check it out more closely later. LOL: the book "What's Your Dosha, Baby?!?!"
And the fact she describes herself as a "lifestyle designer" - I need an update of mine, I think ... ;)

A Thousand apologies...
(12:00pm) - TEXT: So much for being the most powerful blog in the universe or whatever. Seriously - my life is busier than it was during the ramp-up to the holidays and Christmas Angel at Holy Spirit.
OY!
'S ok though ... I'll be postin reglar-like again ... eventually :)
"Hotel Dusk"
(12:00pm) - GAME: So I found this really cool site called "Hotel Dusk." It's a detective game for Nintendo DS (handheld mini-screen gaming system like the gameboy). You play a 1979 disgraced former police detective turned liquor salesman who stumbles across some mysterious goings-on at a hotel where he just happens to be staying.... the website has cool visual effects and programming. Easy to use interface which helps dish up a sample lead-in game - you can play it right there on the web.
Basically, it's a huge ad for the NintendoDS. I may have to get one now ... (just kidding, folks!)

"Hotel Dusk"
(12:50pm) - VIDEO: This is hands-down the most unintentionally funny promo video ever written by the hand of man. Of course, it logically follows that "Microsoft" must be the behemoth responsible...
From the description: "... Boring until the 7 minute mark when the production is taken over by crack-smoking monkeys."

Dave Barry's Blog...
(2:40pm) - TEXT: This blog is now the most powerful battle station in the universe. Oh wait, no ... that's the Death Star.
At any rate, I have improved the quality of this blog a hundred-fold. Or at least twice. Because now I have added the URL:

Yes, it's Dave Barry's Blog! Truly this blog is powerful, as the Emperor has foreseen....!

Gators Win! Gators WIN !!! Nat'l Champs '07!
(9:30am) - TEXT: It all happened last night between 8:30pm and midnight. But here it is over 12 hours later and I *still* can't believe it.
Here's what Ivan Maisel at ESPN.com had to say:
- "Florida 41, Ohio State 14 is not a mistake. If it's at all inaccurate, it's because the game was not as close as the score indicated. If you went to bed early Monday night, you saw the whole game anyway."
