Hand-farts!
(1:45pm) - VIDEO: Have you ever put your hands together to make farting noises? Well put 'em together for this guy. Yes, "Bohemian Rhapsody" played to the accompaniment of skillful hand-farting technique:

May all be not only well, but oh-so-excellent for you and everyone you love!

TGIF
(12:30pm) - So today I got stuck in traffic on the way to work.
Not just "slowed to a crawl" traffic, no ... real, live "jammed up and at a dead stop" traffic. For an hour. I was cruisin to make it to work by 7:00am, and I was only about 5 mins away at 6:45am when I came around a bend and hit the brakes.
Traffic report said a tanker truck was on fire (!) and all lanes were shut down on the I-75/85 connector downtown at North Avenue.
I was a mile-and-a-half back and saw no smoke.
Emergency vehicles flew past on the shoulder to beat the band, and I could see an entire chorus of flashing lights up where the tanker supposedly was, but we weren't moving. At all. After about seven to eight minutes it was 6:52am and I knew I wouldn't make it. I called Matt, my boss, on his cell, to advise. He said, "Just get there as fast as you can."
So I waited another five minutes - then turned off my car, my headlights, and my radio. I put on my headphones and listened to more of my audiobook... and dozed. To keep myself from falling into a deep sleep, every 30 sec to a minute I opened my eyes to check. I spent a good solid hour that way before we started moving.

Added Lincoln speech text
(4:00pm) - I updated the text below the Lincoln picture also, but here are the pages wherein I pasted the complete texts of two Abraham Lincoln speeches:
People-watching report ...
(12:30pm) - I just saw the most ... interesting ... person I've seen in a while. Let me tell you where it was, then I'll describe her:
I work in a building that has a rather large food court on one level. Like a mall, it has a huge open area with all the tables, and walkways that quarter the "room" such that anyone sitting at one of the tables nearest a walkway sees everyone walking in / by / through the food court.
She had every quality that a dwarf has (and I am not expressing prejudice here, simply describing what I saw): solid, stocky body, short arms, and short legs. She sort of waddled when she walked - again, similar to those who are part of the height-challenged segment of society.
Why is this interesting? Because she was over 5 feet tall. A good bit, too. If she was five feet, she was five-six. Very curious to me that a woman of (statistically) *normal height* would have those physical qualities.
(Let the accusations, recriminations, and allegations of height bias begin ... )
The cutest kitten in the world ...
(8:50am) - I check the "Daily Kitten" every day, since I have two cats. It's a neat twist for a site - at precisely 3:07pm local time, they post a new picture of a kitten:

New Photos of *me* ...
(10:45am) - Right over there to the left :)
Here's a few more that also come from the Olan Mills sitting I did Saturday:
Handsome bugger, ain't I ?!?
The black-and-white one was my idea: an attempt, based on faulty memory, to re-create a famous Abraham Lincoln pose. Here's a copy of the original, "Lincoln at Cooper Union":
The photo was taken the same day Lincoln delivered his "Cooper Union" speech in New York City. Scholars say it was this speech, delivered on February 27th, 1860 and spread around the country like wildfire via pamphlet and newspaper reports, that most galvanized support for Abraham Lincoln at the Republican Convention later on - gaining him the nomination and the Presidency that November. I agree - it's very powerful and convincing. Entire books have been devoted to what Lincoln said, and why he said it, at that time and place.

More web coolness
(1:15pm) - Two more links I want to check out at home:
http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail163.html
http://tinyurl.com/y99wfm
"HomeStarRunner" is an experience. Web comedy at its finest.
The second link is a preview for the movie "300" - a stylized take on the battle of Thermopylae. 300 Spartan warriors held off a Persian army of at least 10,000 (though that's just a guess after a quick Google search).
Yet another link - this is Harry Potter related
(3:45pm) - Here it is:

Fan fiction in which Harry Potter goes to live with the Addams Family ... the first few paragraphs are well-written.

A bit of overkill ... doncha think?
(4:15pm) - A woman in Rock Hill, SC, called the police because her son opened a Christmas present early - after specifically being told not to. The kicker? The police *did* arrest the 12 year old "criminal":

Can ya believe that? My sister lives just outside of Rock Hill, in the little town of York, SC ...

Post-date Update...
(1:30am) - I'm *still* really, really happy. OK - Test #1 passed.
:)
I'm only half-joking by saying that. We had a very good time. No juicy details for you here - this is a public forum. And I do not kiss and tell. Period.
HOWEVER ...
I will tell you that it took me awhile to get past my stupid verbal stumbling blocks - as Abraham Lincoln once said, "A woman is the only thing I am afraid of which I know cannot hurt me." I probably talked to much, and the more suave and debonair of my gender would likely critique a video recording of my performance as sorely lacking in smoothness and brevity, but.... Well, whatever. Ah, but Susan made my little brain-neurons misfire in stupid ways!! It's OK though - we really opened up to each other, and, provided she was very honest with me about her past (and I'm here telling the entire world that everything I told her was true as I see/remember it all, so-help-me-God), then there's a real chance here.
Sure, she has her fair share of baggage. But I'm finally at the point in my life where I believe that my perception of her situation is the true situation. And if I'm right about that, I can handle it. I won't air any of her dirty laundry here - I have plenty of my own and it would be rude and hypocritical if I did - so suffice to say that she gets Date Number Two. I think we have compatible laundry ...
:)
So to wrap up (and I can't go to bed until I finish this!), we're going to talk again tomorrow. I'm going to the Ale House for the SEC Championship game, and will call her afterward.
Oh - I asked her, and she gave me permission to post a couple pics here of her. In return she will of course get the URL so she will be reading everything I tell you here about her/myself.
Bye for now - It's going to be a GRRRRRREAT weekend!

New Girlfriend ... Susan!
(7:10pm) - I'm really, really happy. We've talked a few times, and tonight we're going to have dinner together for the first time. Her name is Susan, and there are *supposed to be* a couple pictures of her here ... but eHarmony.com disabled the copy function so none of their photos can be taken off the site. Dammitalltohell ...
:)
So anyway, y'all are just gonna have to wait until you meet her, or she sends me a couple pics that I can post here. She's really cute. You can even ask her yourself: she told me (without prompting I might add)! If you're thinking that's rather presumptuous and forward, you're right ... but also wrong. She's merely very forthright and confident.
She's Catholic also, and coincidentally she and her daughter *go to my church* ... as a matter of fact, her daughter, Bailey (who is nine), goes to Holy Spirit Prep elementary. How cool is that?
She's also a former police officer who loves her new job as a teacher of behavior-disabled elementary school kids. She especially likes the Latino and black tough-guy kids - she's able to win them over.
Yes, I know we haven't met yet. I shouldn't get too excited. I sound really excited ... but I shouldn't be excited. Yet. Ah, well; it's just the chemical rush of new relationships - gotta love em. If it doesn't work out, I have 3 more months on eHarmony.
Stay tuned ...
